Diana Lewis

I like my stoneware pots to be used and handled. Thrown, coiled or slab built and using varied decoration they are generally rustic.

A potter for many years, I have been able to develop my interest in creating functional ceramics, mainly in stoneware. I prefer to throw pots but use slab and coil methods too. Inspiration grows from ideas for use with food and this combines with other passions for vegetable growing and cooking. I like to experiment with different decorative techniques but prefer to keep to simple and traditional methods. I enjoy all stages of the craft in the small studio scene from digging up and preparing local clay ( infrequently), making and decorating, firing and recording and cataloguing the results.

I like to think that all my creative activities feed into each other so that watercolour painting, drawing, and tapestry weaving, all of which I enjoy, contribute to overall shape and colour ideas many of which are derived from natural objects and landscapes.
