Gerald A. Unwin

Using mostly ceramics I make a variety of sculptural, commissioned & domestic ware ranging from wry, wayward & weird to topical, traditional & transcendent.

Having always been creative from a very early age I studied Fine Art & ceramics at university before going on to follow a career teaching & lecturing in the arts in schools & colleges in the North. Having made a range of work including sculptures, slipware, domestic & commissioned pieces I have exhibited individually as well as with the Northern Potters Association at various venues – my work being in collections across the world. The ‘specialist’ humour it reflects plays a major part in the expression of my ideas with an ‘off-kilter’ approach underlining the work which regularly confronts expectations & questions the values of a society that readily anaesthetises many from it’s realities. Bringing a thought to the mind or a smile to the lips, my work is priced at a level to permit it to be enjoyed in the homes of those that appreciate the pieces I make.
