Julie Shearing

I am a textile artist who creates abstract hand printed surfaces for wall hung art. I am currently inspired by the bold patterns on fish.

I love to develop designs from observational drawings in my sketch book. I use mixed media and often create layered collages and then transfer this effect onto fabric. The printed surfaces can include layered fabric, stitch as a form of drawing, and colour which all adds depth and movement to my work. I like to experiment with different printing techniques such as screen, block, stencil, and mono printing to create different contrasting textures. I also like to paint directly onto fabric. Although I am currently inspired by fish I am also drawn to beauty found in nature, architecture, sculpture, and abstract art. For the last two years I have exhibited my work with ev-ol-ve textile group.
