Lesley Churton

I like to show the natural beauty of wood and its flaws in the pieces I turn.

I love to turn wood, I love the feel of it and the surprises a mucky old lump of wood can reveal when the outside is turned away. Forget the “exotics”, I prefer to use British hardwoods but also enjoy turning acrylics, polyesters and scrap kitchen worktop material (Corian) into pens. Some woods lend themselves to scorching, after which the softer grain can be brushed away and enhanced. However, the wood still looks like wood.
