I have had a studio at Portland Works for 6 years. A year ago we moved to the present brighter and newly renovated space, which has presented new possibilities and challenges.

For some time before the move I had been exploring ways to make dyes and stains, and print from organic and man-made objects such as rusty metal plates and weeds sourced mainly ‘on site’around the Works.

During that time I visited Spurn point in East Yorkshire There too the processes of erosion on natural and man-made objects and the effect of climatic conditions on the coastline fascinated me, and I was inspired to try simulating these conditions by immersing both objects and paper for days and (occasionally weeks!) to make unique prints.

I am continuing to experiment with making prints and paper by hand – currently from borrowed tools used in the forging process.
