At the heart of my work is an underpinning of traditional skills. I have always aimed to achieve a technical excellence in order to realise my vision. Much of what I do is shaped by tradition stone techniques and tools but at the same time experimenting with new styles and methods has a role too.
If vitality flows through a newly carved sculpture then I consider it a success. My sculptures are loosely figurative but highly stylised in order to convey a sense or feel of the animal.
A main source of inspiration comes from ancient artefacts, drawing on the shared origins of Humanity, Agriculture, and Civilisation. Prehistoric art and the ancient art of the Near East have long been rich sources of inspiration for my work.
