Originally trained in fine art print making, I worked at the ground breaking Kelpra Studio in London in the 1970s and 80s. I trained as a psychotherapist and for the past 20 years have worked in an NHS Clinical Psychology Department. This work has had a big influence on the nature of my creative activity. For me it is, as if, my ceramic pieces and vessels represent containers for parts of the self. The pieces are unglazed allowing the texture and colour of the clays to predominate. I consciously strive to pare back and reduce my work to its simplest with the emphasis on form and shape.
My 2-dimensional work from my “Signs of Life” series is of a psychological and, at times, polemical nature exploring various psychological positions and choices we face in our lives, prompting questions and thoughts not usually expressed or acknowledged consciously.
