Sheridan MacInnes

I work in stoneware clay from my home studio, making domestic tableware, such as plates, mugs, bowls and jugs as well as vases and planters. These are glazed with smooth matte glazes.

I first became interested in pottery when I was teaching English in Japan, learning handbuilding methods at a pottery school in Tokyo. I started to learn to throw pots on an electric wheel at evening classes in London and later began to experiment with glazes. Now I work from my small studio at my home in Hunter’s Bar. I throw the pots from stoneware clay and fire them twice in an electric kiln. I have formulated some of the glazes I use. I like to think of people using my pots, as we do in our home. When designing them I look for a shape and a glaze that will complement the food or drink they will contain. The way a pot feels in the hands and how it looks on the table are what interest me.
