Victoria Nowell

A visually challenged traditional quilter. Love strong colour, Hawaiian quilts, hand stitching, tradition with a twist & sharing my passion with others.

Sewing is one of my earliest memories, I trained & worked as a professional embroiderer many years ago & made my first quilt about 13 years ago. I haven’t looked back since! I love creating beautiful, practical quilts to be used – the american term ‘comforter’ is very appropriate. My passion is Hawaiian and wholecloth quilts of which I have made a number now. I love making all types of quilts, both traditionally by hand and by machine. The more complicated the better! I use natural materials, often dyeing fabric to get the colours I want – and some I didn’t know I wanted! I love sharing this passion with others, encouraging people to develop new skills. Losing my sight a few years ago hasn’t really slowed me up much – although I no longer do ‘subtle’.
