Painting landscape is my passion, particularly capturing dramatic light effects, strong contrasts and moody skies. I love the drama of British landscape, in particular, Peak District vistas with rugged edges and rapidly changing weather, light and colour. My paintings are many layered and textured often with strong colours but simple compositions. I draw on memory, intuition and imagination in my work but do refer to the sketches and notes I make as I walk the landscape. Artistic influences include Turner and Abstract Expressionism.
After studying Fine Art in Exeter, I moved to South Yorkshire and since then I have lived, worked and painted in Sheffield. I paint full time both in a studio at home and one in Exchange Place. Occasionally, I teach and give talks to art groups. My paintings have been exhibited and sold regularly throughout the region, nationally and internationally including Singapore and New York.
