Kate Wells

Beautiful embroidery, drawings and a lovely studio. In 2017 I will be working on commissions for landscapes along with new samples in gold thread.

Kate’s studio has been established over 30 years since graduating at Loughborough College of Art (BA Hons) followed by MA (Textiles) at Manchester. Always with a strong emphasis on drawing, the work moves easily across themes of land, nature and richly decorative subjects, happily employing machine and hand embroidery to a fine level. Recent work has been exceptional gold embroidery made on the Singer ‘Irish’ Industrial machine on fine silk or dissolvable fabric.

This year’s landscapes travel from Derbyshire to Dorset to rediscover expressive lines, colour, collage and textures – a chance to revisit past themes to move forward.

Visitors will be able to browse sketchbooks, handle samples and ask questions about the processes and inspirations – often including poetry and amassing ‘theme books’ to bring ideas together.
The resulting work sits comfortably between drawing, painting and embroidery.

I hope you will enjoy your visit.
