Katherine Rhodes

Art inspired by natural forms and landscape. Crags, hills and shorelines, with a current focus on Stanage Edge.

Linocut, collagraph, drypoint printmaking, and painting.

My artwork is representational and inspired by natural forms and landscapes. Recent work has focused on the local Peak District, in particular Stanage walking and climbing routes.

I print using Linocut, Drypoint and Collagraph techniques, and paint with Oils and Watercolour.

The cut edges made with Linocut printmaking seems to work well as a means to describe the rocky crags and edges. Collagraph and drypoint allow for experimentation with texture and tone, and a more painting like approach within printmaking.

The printmaking process requires a very conscious consideration of the component lines, form, colours and tones within a subject. This cognitive process has made me look afresh at subjects and the artwork that I make to distil the image into its essential parts, and combine them again, to produce a painting or print that encapsulates the view.
