Luke Durkie

I am a print-maker and illustrator, predominantly working with linocut. I’m inspired by animals, fairy-tales and children’s literature.

I studied illustration at University which is where I learnt how to print using linocuts.

I have been creating bright and amusing linocuts of lettering, primarily designed for children’s bedrooms. These are inspired by animals, nature and characters from my sketchbook. Other pieces are based on literature or the odd Sheffield scene. Some of my prints are sequential, but I like all my prints to tell a story.

My MA concentrated on children’s book illustration and my work reflects this. I illustrate using a variety of mediums: linocut, watercolours, collage, pencil crayon and Photoshop. I enjoy illustrating work for children that can be often dark, sad or surreal as well as hopefully fun and amusing.
