Marion Thorpe

I reflect the light, colour and energy of the natural world using the mediums of acrylic, felt or watercolour.

My strong inspirations come from Matisse, Van Gough and Hockney. I find these painters to be joyous in their use of colour.

I was born into a small, grey mining village and in my twenties moved to Andalucia to find work. This had an indelible affect on my creative skills. The rhythm, the colours and the evocative shapes of the Spanish lifestyle were in stark contrast to my early experiences.

I try now to evoke and reflect these influences using the world that is around me, summoning up the energy of nature. My work is largely figurative but is free flowing as I attempt to convey the joy of the natural world.
