Maureen Laycock OBE

My work is mostly in oils, acrylics. I also use pastels, textiles and mixed media occasionally. I am motivated by the countryside and flowing waters.

I am a qualified Art teacher and taught Art for many years prior to becoming a Secondary headteacher 1995-2010. I then returned to my own work with some trepidation. I have progressed my abilities by doing local and regional art courses. I live now in Oughtibridge surrounded by hills and valleys from which I draw inspiration. My studio overlooks the Jarvis mill pond with ducks and a heron. I have always been influenced by the Impressionist movement, particularly Paul Cezanne. I also love the work of David Hockney. I believe now that I am finding my voice as an artist.

I now wake up to look at lovely hills and valleys around Oughtibridge and BradfieldEnter. I also walk in these areas, take photographs and do simple sketches to begin my pictures. Recently I have been absorbed by flowing and falling waters, working on enlargements of details in photographs.
