I have recently started the ceramics starter studio programme at the Yorkshire Artspace in Sheffield. My ceramic work has a high focus on richly layered surface decoration and modern use of colour onto slab built Earthenware forms.
The inspiration behind my work started in a visit to Northern Italy, where I was inspired by the beautiful architecture. Layering up fragmented imagery from different places during the trip and merging them on to one piece of ceramic artwork has created a unique collection of interesting ceramics, with no two pieces the same.
Drawings and mark-making techniques are used alongside raised textures to directly decorate the ceramic surface, using processes such as; stencils, ceramic transfers, slips and underglazes, to present the idea of using clay as a canvas. I gain enjoyment from the spontaneity of my decoration processes, alongside the adjustment to building slight alterations in form for each piece.
