Mike Scown

I produce thrown porcelain vessels and tableware and offer Raku firing workshops for schools and private parties.

I am drawn to the chemistry underlying the materials and processes at work in ceramics, I love experimenting with different minerals that have been dug from the ground, burning and melting them until they are transformed into something new and beautiful. The medium of ceramics offers such a wide variety of approaches in forming, decorating and firing that one can spend a lifetime playing with materials and barely scratch the surface of what is possible. I value educating others in these processes, and hold workshops in schools and private parties in an effort to spread the joy of working with clay to others.
