Norman Cherry

Hand built, sculptural pottery, suitable for garden and patio. Also, wheel thrown glazed pots for domestic use.

I use two main methods of working; glazed stoneware pots for domestic use are made on a potter’s wheel and sculptural work I make by hand, either coiling or slab building.

Both ways I concentrate on producing satisfying, well proportioned forms, decorated with incised lines in geometrical or free-hand patterns.

I use an electric kiln for my glazed pots, and a wood fired kiln for the hand-built ware. The swirl of flames around the pots combined with ash deposits give an exciting and unpredictable range of rich colour and surface finishes.
