Phil Lockwood

I mainly produce fantasy Townscapes and Industrial scenes with dramatic lighting and usually with a touch of humour. But recently have been making 3D Work.

I usually work in Acrylic, but often experiment with other media.

My paintings are compilations of memories in fictional fantasy settings, often with dramatic lighting.
These “lighting effects” were initially inspired by observation of street illumination whilst walking the dog in the winter evenings, resulting in a fascination and urge to capture the differing lighting effects in paint. This usually imposes a need for the scene to be nocturnal or set in the twilight.

In all cases the composition is created during the action of painting, no preliminary sketches are used as I like to incorporate the “happy accidents” that this method of working produces.
Although painting is still my main output I have recently begun experimenting with 3D depictions of figures, small animals, birds and abstract items.
