From rags to rugs and more…
Jumble sale finds are turned into colourful textile creations. Demonstrations showing working methods. Workshop bookings.
Tea and homemade cake.

After graduating in Education and Textile Art 25 years ago my creative journey has led me to explore the traditional skills of rag rug making. I love to rummage at local jumble sales to source the fabric I use to make traditional Proddy, Double Proddy and Scandanavian stitched rag rugs. I also adapt these techniques to create decorative soft furnishings to embellish the home.

As scraps are created these in turn are made into ‘Buttons, Bits and Bobs’ cushions or ‘Jumpers and Jumble’ throws – original and unique techniques.

I regularly run workshops at the Art Room, Barlow, a wonderful creative space loved by all my students. The appeal for many people is the recycling aspect of these traditional crafts and the nostalgic return to memories of their childhood. People are amazed that something so functional and decorative can be created from a couple of 50p duvet covers!
