Samantha Groom

I make bold and colourful woodcut, linocut, stamp & screen prints, which I hand-print onto paper, plywood, MDF & fabric.

In my studio I create prints, free standing & wall hanging artwork and homewares such as lampshades.

In recent years my work has been influenced by memories of childhood, 50’s, 60’s & 70’s design and some contemporary art.

I start with collage and when developing ideas I like to experiment with arranging individually hand-cut sections of wood & lino, playing with shape and colour combinations to produce different designs.
I’m inspired by what I see around me: my local community, the park, local buildings, my allotment, changing seasons; and at home my daughter’s toys and books, ordinary household items and sentimental objects.

I have a degree and MA in art and I’ve been printmaking for 20 years. Now printmaking full-time after over a decade teaching art and textiles in secondary school, as well as printing, I love to run printmaking workshops from my studio and from other locations around Yorkshire.
