Allison James

Drawing on landscape photography, my work interprets these images in textiles, using a range of techniques and materials to explore their colour, texture and pattern.

My work draws largely on landscape photography, the images being taken both locally and further afield. I use a range of textile techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, quilting and embellishing, to explore and reinterpret the colours, textures and patterns found in these landscape images. The choice of media and approach is made in response to the feelings and sense of place inherent to a particular image, leading to an abstraction of the landscape rather than its figurative re- representation.

I have recently completed the City and Guilds Diploma in Embroidery and have begun to exhibit some of my work, with two pieces being in the touring exhibition “Collective Stitches” . This was curated by Dionne Swift and currently featuring in the Knitting and Stitching Shows in Dublin and Harrogate
