Amanda Crump

I am a ceramic artist creating mainly anthropomorphic, wall-hung creatures investigating the relationship between man and beast.

My artwork is an investigation into the relationship between ourselves and the creatures we share our world with. There are untold lessons to be learned from an animals’ sense of self, pride, survival and innate dignity that we humans start our lives with but often lose on our journey through the trappings of our modern existence. I try to imbue my figures with a quiet self-assertion and zoetic quality – they are giving you a moment of their time, despite wanting to get on with their own thing!

My work is a departure from the ceramics I studied at university in the 90’s. I studied functional ceramics gaining a masters in Stoke-on Trent. I trained as a secondary school teacher 10 years ago and have been teaching art and ceramics ever since.
