Emily Thatcher

I make contemporary stone-set precious metal Jewellery, I draw inspiration from the organic world around us at a cellular level.

I work full-time as a designer jeweller. After graduating from the Cass in London with a degree in Silversmithing, Jewellery & Allied Crafts, I set up my own practice alongside working for other jewellers in the jewellery quarter in Brighton before flying solo. I moved my practice to Sheffield two years ago and sell my work national & internationally

I Select unique gem material for each design, I work to expose the honesty of the stone – the inclusions and fractures, responding to these innate characteristics rather than discarding them. Hand-carving gemstones enriches these details and extends the sculptural line of the design from the metal through to the stones.

Using traditional hand-fabrication techniques alongside shaping stone, I creates fluid lines of that ebb and flow to define the structure, whilst the colours of both stones and metals draw the eye around the designs.
