Fiona Carruth

My work is mostly influenced by the Surrealism, Illusionism and Symbolism movements, and I take inspiration from dreams and spiritual experiences.

I completed my BA in Fine Art (Combined and Media) with honours at Sheffield Hallam University in 2001.

I have explored Film, Sculpture and Photomontage, but have returned to my love and drawing and painting, and most of my pieces are worked in acrylics and oils, with occasionally some charcoal and pastel.

I have had quite a spiritual journey since leaving Art School, and my influences range from the Tarot, Wicca, Shamanic Journeying ,Existentialism, Feminism, Paganism, Socialism, Psychology, the Healing Arts, Performance Art, Cinema and Politics.I like to explore serious contemporary issues, but always with a touch of dark humour and a cathartic element.

I spend a lot of time in nature, which I find both therapeutic and rejuvenating.

Some paintings take me weeks to complete, and some just a few hours.
