Helen Parrott

Artist and author making stitched art textiles and writing books. Both activities draw strongly on my experience of landscapes, including the Peak District.

Helen has been making and exhibiting her art textiles since 1990. She is best known for her minimalist landscape based work, teaching and 2013 book ‘Marking-making in textile art’.

Textile traditions, including North Country quilting, remain important. Her recent research and exhibition collaboration with Bradford Textile Archive explored the work of Mary Ware, an C18 English ‘callico printer’.

Helen’s work has been exhibited in the UK, US and Japan, including with the European group Quilt Art. Helen’s solo show ‘zen and the art of hand quilting’ toured with the 2002 Knitting and Stitching show.

Helen has work in private and public collections including the Quilters’ Guild 90’s collection. She has received the UK Embroiderers’ Guild De Denne Bursary and Arts Council England awards for research, development and touring. She studied at Leeds and Sheffield Hallam Universities and at Loughborough College of Art and Design.
