Figurative sculptures in high fired stoneware clay and multiple glazes.
I make figurative sculptures in high-fired stoneware clay, mainly of the human head or figure. I am inspired by the infinitely variable and fascinating individuality of human faces and how clothing affects the perception of an individual and their place in society.
Some of my smaller pieces are more about hats and clothing, particularly from the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods and many of my busts are a recreation in three dimensions of painted portraits. I enjoy the challenge of integrating texture and colour with sculpted form. All my work is made from high-fired stoneware with multiple glazes.
