Linda Doughty

Creating collage, paintings and textile art, I’m inspired by my local environment, landscape and nature. I work with mixed media, fabric, embroidery and weaving.

Originally working in oils, my techniques have developed over the years and I now use mainly acrylic paint and inks, sometimes with watercolours, pastels and drawing ink, in my paintings and collage pieces. My love of colour and texture has led to me using yarns, fabric, and weaving in my creations as well as various papers. These textile pieces are sometimes incorporated into collage; at other times they are stand-alone works of art.

I’m drawn to the urban landscape and nature within the city, as well as to more rural landscapes, although these nearly always include buildings, usually ruins. Having recently started working at the studio in Portland Works, I’m beginning to explore the surrounding buildings and area, experimenting with found objects and trying to discover how to include these within my work.
