Working with clay is fairly recent to me. My first foray was attending a throwing class in 2014, but it was moulding the clay with my fingers, rather than using the wheel, that captured my attention. In an unexpected moment I found myself as a child at play again. It was enjoyable and felt like a healthy thing to do. So I continued.
Now I have a studio and run regular classes of my own. Remembering the simplicity of playing with clay is crucial to me. It’s an exploration, I can wander off. I make all sorts of things in all sorts of different ways, sometimes on a whim, sometimes more reflective and personal, and sometimes just to see if I can. The repeated themes in my work bring me back and collectively they are an expression of something deeper within.
