Cath Dunn

Cath Dunn

Cath Dunn is a painter/printmaker & inspired by natural forms, rocks, trees, the lie of the land, and works with pattern, rhythm & colour.

I am inspired by natural forms and a sense of place – by rocks, trees, weather, climate, the lie of the land. However my primary interest lies in pattern, abstraction and stylization. Currently I would describe my work as semi-abstract but with a long-term aim of greater abstraction.

Although semi-abstract, my work is connected, with a sense of place – places that I visit frequently and have an emotional attachment to. I continue to explore the landscape of the Peak District, Pennines and Scottish Borders in a variety of paint types and textures, and on different surfaces.

As both a painter & printmaker, there is a close connection between my painting and printmaking. I often use hand-made prints, as a basis for paintings and I use paintings as a basis for printmaking. Much of my printmaking is painterly in style.
