Bryan Munsey
After 30 years of turning I am still excited by cutting into a new piece of timber and seeing it take shape.
I’ve now been turning wood for 30 years and the excitement of starting a new project is still there. Cutting into the wood with a chisel, seeing the grain and deciding on the shape to turn is a real pleasure. I value my time in the workshop/studio as a time of relaxation and peace.
All my work is with reclaimed timber sourced in South Yorkshire. With the growing problems of climate change, I value trees that are alive and am careful to ensure that timber I use has been felled as diseased or unsafe.
The recent acquisition of Monkey puzzle being killed by honey fungus, spalted Beech close to being beyond saving and burr Oak from a fallen tree has enabled me to give the wood new life.
I turn items for use and display that reflect the natural grain and colour of the wood.
