Dave Akehurst
I am a painter. With the city of Sheffield as my usual subject matter I try to express my personal connection with its urban landscapes.
I studied Fine Art first in my home town of Derby and then at Portsmouth Polytechnic. Later I embarked on a career in Theatre set design from Croydon College in a variety of roles from West End shows to work on a Bond film at Pinewood studios. I came to Sheffield from London in 1988 to settle and start a family. I retrained as a teacher and taught D&T and woodwork for 25 years. During this period I also managed to cultivate my painterly pursuits first from home and then from a number of studio spaces. My preferred medium is acrylic on canvas though I also employ other methods including oil on board. In addition to my chosen pictures I have fulfilled many private commissions for clients who enjoy my style.
