Denise Gratton

My work is colourful and predominately abstract with inspiration taken from the natural world around me. I use mainly acrylic and watercolour paints.

Leaving full time employment allowed me time to explore my interests and creativity. I started to draw and paint and joined a local art group. I enjoyed the the whole experience but often felt dissatisfied and frustrated with the results. I love the colour, consistency and flow of paint so I began to move paint around on paper with various implements! I have developed a style that is loose and expressive. I hope to elicit an emotional response when people look at the paintings. I have exhibited at Art in the Gardens and The Great Sheffield Art Show but this is my first Open Up Sheffield. I have been influenced by Hazel Lale, Shirley Trevener and Ann Blockley amongst may others.
