NEW to Open Up!

Eva Juusola

Watercolours and collagraph prints, capturing light and atmosphere. Subjects include local landscapes, animals and figures.

I am a watercolourist and printmaker. Originally from Germany, I moved to Sheffield over 15 years ago. I love photographing and sketching the landscapes of the Peak District and the animals that live there, and these often become the subjects of my work.

I have been working in watercolours for many years, and have recently fallen in love with collagraph printmaking. Both mediums have an element of unpredictability that makes them very exciting to work with.

For me, the main appeal of printmaking lies in its need for simplification; the stripping away of unnecessary detail to get to the essence of the subject. I am drawn to strong value contrasts, and bold colours. I aim to capture the interplay of light and shade, and the moods created by different atmospheric conditions.
