Gerald Anthony Unwin

Basically a ceramicist who makes humorous as well as realistic sculptures I also produce pieces for use with plants, flowers & food. My paintings, drawings & photos are also displayed in my studio.

I have taught & lectured in the Fine & Applied arts & ceramics in particular throughout my professional career in secondary & further education. Influenced by a wide range of artistic styles & genres – from Staffordshire Flat-back & Transylvanian slipware to the works of Hokusai, Rodin & more contemporary artists. I enjoy adapting traditional forms to my own ideas reflecting a wayward approach that often demands a second look. Interpretations of the skewed society in which we find ourselves often poke fun at political figures & celebrities. Recent work has been influenced by the natural environment, endangered species, historical buildings and a humorous play on words. My worked is made in such a way as to permit those who like my pieces to enjoy them in their own home.
