My paintings are about evoking a sense of place, an emotional connection and an atmosphere rather than a direct representation. Inspiration comes from the textures, shapes and colours of the land and sea, also the humans that pass through leaving their marks on both…footpaths worn over years, bright debris scattered on the beach, a flash of a neon jacket on the hills.
A childhood spent in Liverpool, North Wales and Lancashire, I graduated with a Fine Art degree from Nottingham in the 1980’s and have lived in Sheffield ever since. Previously working as a graphic designer and mural artist, I have run regular art classes for adults for a number of years at Hangingwater Studio. As well as painting landscape I also create still-lifes, and I exhibit and sell in galleries across the UK.
