Jacqueline Hilson

I create textile based wall art. My images are usually abstracted natural forms, be that trees flowers or landscapes.

I am a self-taught textile artist, I draw a lot of inspiration from my Nigerian background, notably the use of spiral motifs and curved shapes. Living in Sheffield means that you don’t have to go too far to get in touch with nature, so trees ( albeit somewhat abstracted), feature heavily in my work. Trees and spirals remind us of the things that unify us, they occur everywhere in nature and are to be found in the art of many cultures. The use of several layers of fabric in my work and the way in which I reveal some of the layers underneath, but not others is a comment on how we as humans conduct our lives. I use silks and organza in my work as I like the way way light and shadow can change the way the colours look depending on where you are standing.
