Janine Barnsley

I make unique pieces of silver jewellery, with gold, silver and oxidised detail, textured, matte and polished surfaces, inspired by ancient artefacts and modern buildings.

I was awarded a DIP AD Hons in 3Ddesign/silver jewellery from Sheffield College of Art in the early 70s and have been designing and making jewellery ever since. I opened a shop on West Street in 1977 selling my work and that of other designers and also sold work to galleries and shops throughout the UK but am now concentrating more on one off pieces. I have always been fascinated by artefacts from ancient cultures and the marks left on them by their makers, using mainly hand tools and traditional techniques, I feel a connection with these artisans .I also have a love for modern architecture and draw inspiration from my urban surroundings and areas of Paris, where I spent 3 summers cat sitting. I like to combine gold ,oxidised silver and semi-precious stone details in my jewellery, also marks and textures on matte and polished surfaces.
