Lyn Carruthers

Inspired by natures seasons, my mixed media work expresses how we are disconnected from our environment, each other, the past and the natural world

Since my last Open Up Sheffield in 2018 much has happened in the world and my life. I turned 60 and took part in Regeneration: Painterly Exchange to reflect on transformation and regeneration in my art process at 60. Using a self-portrait, I focused on myself as an artist, within a studio, within an art organisation, within a regeneration area of Sheffield. I completed a commission from Museums Sheffield to work on the theme of the Lost Words Book with school children and exhibited it in the Sheffield Millennium Galleries. It was magical. During Covid I began to use my time in the studio more playfully. Messing about with my favourite materials such as wool and bark. I also returned to painting with watercolours. I was commissioned to knit two Tiny clangers. The second Tiny Clanger reflected the characteristics and personality of the person it was for.
