Mo Laycock OBE

I work mostly using acrylics & oils. Sometimes pastels, multi media work – the latter also using a sewing machine. I also use oils/wax.

I am a retired secondary headteacher, my first degree is Fine Arts. We downsized 7 years ago to Oughtibridge where I have a studio & work there on almost a daily basis, particularly in recent COVID times! I returned to producing art on my retirement with some trepidation but inspired by a trip to New Zealand in a camper van with my husband. I am pleased with my artistic/ creative journey to date.

My inspirations come from Cezanne, Hockney & Hodgkin generally. We walk & cycle in our local area, also Derbyshire, holidays in the UK & abroad. I take photographs for the work & also do some sketching.

I play around with images, take aspects of them to develop further & try out materials & techniques until I have a vague plan of where I’m going. I find the artistic process to be emotionally satisfying, whatever the outcome.
