I sculpt in my spare time, in my cellar workshop, using concrete mostly. I am self-taught using books and the internet as my inspiration, and I am influenced by the art of preindustrial societies and Daoism. I expect and welcome changes in direction during the creative process, whilst going with the flow of the work, and trying to achieve harmony.
The medium of concrete, a transiently malleable substance, often forces the artist to be bold and decisive. Thus, the very nature of the medium of concrete, its limitations and opportunities, becomes an important part of how the project progresses and ends up. I use concrete stains, resins and acrylics to create my finishes. Finished pieces may look like they’re made of stone but with polishing I can also achieve smooth ceramic-like effects. Most sculptures end up in my garden.
In the future I hope to become a full-time artist.
