Working from her eco-built studio on the rural oasis of Green Estate up on the Manor, Sarah exploits the expressive and versatile properties of clay and how it can be used to interpret and reimagine organic form. Inspired by the physiology of the body and how this relates to our natural world, Sarah’s work aims to capture the essence of nature, creating a new language of forms that are ambiguous, tactile, sensuous and intriguing.
Using mainly handbuilding processes of slabbing, pinching and extruding, Sarah makes decorative vessel forms as well as organic sculptures in which she increasingly incorporates ‘alien’ materials – slate, metal, pre-fired ceramics, wire, string etc. She is constantly expanding her glaze palette in terms of both colour and texture, whilst mostly sticking with matte or semi-matte surfaces and earthy colours.
Sarah also offers one-off workshops and courses, and coaching for visual artists.
