I use a number of textile techniques in my work; at present my favourites are weaving and making felt. I also spin, dye, stitch and otherwise embellish. My inspiration is very varied, from winter landscape in the Peak District to the modern Sheffield cityscape, but usually colour is the starting point. I am also interested in ways of creating texture in cloth.
I am currently exploring the process of producing cloth from fibre to textile. I work in almost exclusively natural fibres, including wool, silk, mohair, linen, alpaca and hemp. When dyeing, I use a mix of vegetable and chemical dyes.
I have been involved in textile making all my life, and weaving for 23 years.
I sell work in my Etsy shop – SarahWilliamsWeaver – and also work to commission.
