Jan Slater
I am a printmaker. I am inspired by my environment and use several techniques, mainly monoprint, etching and collograph to create my images.
I came to printmaking after I retired having no previous art training. I went on to obtain a Certificate in Printmaking and continued with short courses and workshops which have helped to develop my practice.
I am influenced by elements of the moors and countryside where I live. Edges, rock outcrops and marks on the land crop up in various forms in my work. I am also interested in some of the distressed, industrial buildings in the city.
My prints are not representational reproductions of specific places but are more impressionistic and I try to capture a feeling of what the landscape means to me.
I like to experiment by layering different printing techniques and also by combining small prints in book form.
