John Thatcher

I design and make furniture to commission and for exhibition.

John Thatcher makes bespoke furniture to commission and one-off pieces for exhibition using timbers from sustainable sources. From his workshop in the award-winning Yorkshire Artspace building in Sheffield, John makes furniture that is deliberately simple and robust in form. He prefers a contemporary style that emphasises the beauty of natural wood grains and patterns.

As a City and Guilds trained cabinet maker with 20 years business experience, John continues to accept commissions from a loyal local client base while seeking new outlets for his work both online and by exhibiting his work nationally. Recent work and his exhibition pieces can be seen at his website and the Crafts Council’s online ‘Craft Directory’. John has exhibited at Celebration of Craftsmanship and Design (an exhibition of fine furniture each August in Cheltenham). He is a member of ‘Northern Contemporary Furniture Makers.
