My creative journey began with studying sculpture at Falmouth University and then training at RADA as a scenic artist in theatre and film. While on this journey I acquired a range of skills and techniques that have allowed me to develop and deepen my individual style and practice. Currently I am working on a series of drawings called “small responses”, which explore the themes of space and memory and what arises when the two meet. Two elements are in play here. First, my direct response to a particular place. Second, my reflective response, which begins when I bring the first response into my studio. It’s an intuitive and organic process. By working and re-working several images simultaneously, by adding layers of colour and texture, and by constantly reflecting on the various stages. I find myself always actively responding and connecting to the work that emerges.
