Andy van Vliet

Contemporary ceramists making making both functional and decorative work. One of the founder members of the Manor Wood-burning Kiln.

A design professional by day, I have been practicing as ceramists for a number of years now but have yet to exhibit or start to sell my work. I produce a range of objects including bowls, vases, and sculptural forms inspired by Japanese and modernist precedents. Form and colour are important to me; my work includes natural forms and a palette of muted hues reflecting the Yorkshire countryside. I fire in both an electric and wood burning kiln: the latter as part of the Manor Wood-burning Kiln. My favourite ceramists include Lucie Rie and Hans Coper.

Having built a studio at the bottom of the garden I’m now ready to come out of the cellar and to meet the public!
