Di Shimell

I work with silver and copper, making small pots and jewellery then using a patination technique to change the surface, producing blue and black colouring.

I have now been working in silver and copper for the last few years, often fuzing together the silver and copper, this creates a block or sheet of material that I can then work into small pots, or jewellery. I use the natural environment as my inspiration looking at surface textures and patterns created by plants.

I trained as a fine art printmaker and completed a BAHons Degree in Fine Art in 1988, although I’ve continued to make, it’s been in the last few years I’ve been able to develop a studio and start creating my own work again.

Each piece I make is unique and worked in my studio, if it is patternated then that process can add an unexpected element as the colours are created by the way the metals fuze together. I work on commissions and create both larger pieces as well as smaller pieces of jewellery.
