Jackie Prachek

Aboriginal, Pictish, dot style, joyful, contrasting, colourful. Inspired by natural history, archeology, ecology, maps, physical and mental journeys.

I don’t think in words but in pictures, so never go anywhere without paper and pencils. I worked a long time as a cartoonist and illustrator which helped my sense of design. I have Aboriginal and Pictish influences in style and narrative. I like acrylic because it doesn’t smell and I hand make my stretchers from old bed frames or up cycle them. Im given ideas from birds, animals, insects, water, light, rocks and my experiences. Im working with Pennine Artists on an exhibition about brown field sites for Sheffield Environment Weeks and currently looking at the work of Anna Pitjara Petyarre and Tor Falcon.
