Judith Webster

I enjoy using a variety of printmaking techniques as well as drawing and painting. Landscape, urban and rural, is my main inspiration.

More than 15 ten years ago I discovered a world of printmaking on a day workshop in Derbyshire, doing a drypoint directly onto a copper plate, After that I attended regular weekly printing classes at Hangingwater Studio in Sheffield enjoying the pleasures and challenges that each new technique offers: collagraph, woodcut and engraving, linocut, traditional etching and monoprint. Following that, for a period of five years, with a small group of other printmakers, we rented that same studio space for one day each week to work on our own individual projects. We call ourselves JWJ Printmakers and, as individuals, are members of Sheffield Printmakers.

One main source of inspiration is landscape, urban and rural, at home and abroad, and I try, through sketching, painting and printmaking to use the results to illustrate my emotional responses to particular places. Organic forms, too, are a big influence, in particular trees and plants.
